Britten’s Billy Budd: Martyrs and Mutinies

On Saturday at 1 pm, join us as the Metropolitan Opera presents a 1997 recording of Britten’s Billy Budd. Adapted from Herman Melville’s novella of the same name, the opera follows the crew of the British battleship H.M.S. Indomitable as they navigate the line between good and evil. Dwayne Croft is the naive Billy Budd, a young sailor who is falsely accused of inciting a mutiny. Croft is joined by Philip Langridge as the “starry” Captain Vere, the commander of the Indomitable, and James Morris as Claggart, the officer with a vendetta against Billy. Steuart Bedford conducts.
